Get the state government to end intensive breeding practices of companion animals in NSW
The issue
Puppy factories are large-scale, commercial businesses that mass produce puppies for sale. Puppy factory dogs are viewed only by their ability to make their producer's money, and are confined into crowded cages with no room to move. These dogs are rarely vaccinated, highly susceptible to disease and parasites, and are often found with behavioural problems due to the miserable conditions in which they are exposed.
The mothers of the puppies are forced to endure endless cycles of producing litters in appalling conditions, and it's not uncommon for dogs as young as 6 months old to churn out several litters per year for their entire lives. Within these factories, mothers are forced to have litters of puppies with no chance to recuperate, leaving them with severe ongoing health problems. When they are finally unable to breed any longer, they are euthanised.
We want the State Government to introduce a policy to end intensive breeding practices of companion animals in NSW.
