NSW Premier allow indoor Pools to open at 70% Double Dose Vax or at least 80%
The issue
We have created this petition after listening to Dr Chant this morning explain why indoor pools could not open. Not only are the comments made ill-informed they go against the other standards set in place by the government. The 70% roadmap states that we can re-open, yet the 80% roadmap states that we can’t.
Please show us the data that the Government is relying on that show the the level of transmissions occurring at swimming pools, and why an indoor facility is a higher risk that will require us to remain closed. For an example even when Newcastle had a close contact at Jump N Swim Academy at Thornton there was no resulting transmission from that event.

Stating that children congregating together in swimming lesson is an issue because they are unvaccinated, yet they are allowed to go to school/pre-school/day care together, allowed to accompany their parents to indoor facilities and can potentially have high amount of interaction with other children when going to a child’s birthday party which is also allowed to occur. If Ventilation is an issue please tell me how a shopping centre or restaurant differs from an indoor pool setting when our clients can be in and out within 40mins yet can spend a few hours in these other indoor settings.
Our facilities are also safer then outdoor public pools because we only allow our clients to enter and we can control the amount of persons within our facility by only allowing 1 parent per child as well as now asking parents to drop off their children. All of which we abided by last year.
Lets say I have my 5 friends over who are fully vaccinated, and each of those friends has 2 children. I can potentially have 15 people inside my residence but this is not a concern? If the concern is change rooms as Dr Chant stated, then we will close our change rooms (which is what we did last year), we will abide by the 4 person per sqm rules, we will follow the rules like we did last year with no issue.
There is no difference to allowing a child to learn to swim outdoors then there is a child doing learn to swim indoors.
What you are doing is going to cause a number of swim school to not only lose their clients but also lose their employees and potentially shut down. If we cannot open we will potentially lose 50% of our clients who want their child to be able to learn to swim and will take them wherever they can to get that done. You are also taking child’s lives and safety into your hands as there are been an increase in drownings not only in Australia but worldwide due to the closing of pools
We just want to be able to help kids learn how to swim, what the government is stating contradicts the information we have and already know, that the swimming pool is one of the safest places a child could be.
