The 'Locksmith' Scammer Problem

For too long, scammers have been targeting major cities in Australia and abroad posing as genuine licensed locksmiths and quoting very low "callout fees". They also neglect their responsibility to check that the person lives at the address.

These unqualified, unlicensed, and unethical operators will increase the price too be paid  upon completion without informing the customer and beyond any semblance of a reasonable price.

It ends up costing each consumer hundreds extra for simple jobs. The scammers use Google Ads to out-rank genuine locksmiths because they are willing to pay more for position #1 - and are willing to rip-off people in a stressful situation.

What Can Be Done?

SLED is the policing body responsible for enforcing the laws in NSW which our license fees pay for. The locksmith industry feels that this function is not being performed.

We ask that SLED proactively performs it's enforcement duties by applying the laws of the Security Industry Act & Regulations to the locksmith industry, and rids industry of scammers and criminals.
