I can only talk about my experience of reporting male domestic violence in Sydneys West an ABSOLUTE  DISASTER. 

27th July 2016 I had to get a AVO from my violent drug affected ex partner, the police officer stated I have mental health issues n cause my ex lived some distance away he wasn't concerned so it got listed as non urgent.

2nd August 2016 my x, turns up to my house to create trouble. He refuses to leave so I call the police as I am hunging up the phone my x is swinging punches like its a boxing title fight. I am able to restrain him until he bites my hand that I am  restraining him with, He makes his getaway n runs off. I go to the police station n my x is also there, we are both taken to separate interview rooms. Within about 5 minutes

 I am charged without any questioning or  investigation into the  allegations. I am arrested n charged with assault causing bodily harm.

While I was been charged, my AVO was made urgent. Original statement from me having the mental health issues changed to after conducting checks on my ex,  he has a history of violence & they are worried for my safety n my families. 

My ex partner has a criminal record which is pretty unique with four section 10s, he is currently on good behaviour from his last domestic violence incident,  police downgraded a domestic violence charge to  destruction of property when his mother Linda Burney who is a federal  politician  got involved. Full credit to his good behavior he was charged in January for drug possession.

The person involved in that domestic issue committed suicide shortly after.

Injuries to my hand are more consistent with a bite. No damage to any other part of his face other than one tooth n the deep hole in my hand. 

So he has gotten away with an another incident of violence but then he is rewarded for his efforts, claiming victims compensation n domestic violence benifits through Centrelink with mummy been shadow minister of human services. 

Arrest n charge the right person.
