The 2012 decision by the NSW Liberal Government to approve a housing development around the Awabakal women's Butterfly Cave has caused considerable anguish and anger over the past four years.
Women have fought hard to have the NSW Government revisit the decision to build 20m away from the Cave; and to encourage Roche Group to revise development plans to exclude the Cave and bushland surrounds from its subdivision.
Despite our best efforts, we have not yet succeeded.
As a result, we are planning to protest near the Cave and will provide further information to supporters via this petition, Facebook and email.
If you are interested in supporting our protest, please email me at savethebutterflycave@gmail.com
Aboriginal culture in NSW is under constant and preventable threat from development and the Baird Government has shown no interest in protecting our unique and significant cultural sites. Every bit of land in this state is up for grabs to the highest bidder.
I’ve attached the latest TV report from NBN in Newcastle – and thank you to Georgie and Paul for the respect they showed to women and our precious site.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
