NSW needs a Code of Practice for all Pounds and Shelters ......NOW!!!

The issue

Currently NSW does not have a Code of Practice for Pounds and Shelters, like Queensland, South Australia & Victoria.  Too many times we hear about dogs and cats being Euthanised by mistake,  owners of Micro Chipped dogs and cats not being notified that their pet is in a pound, and then on sold to someone else.  Many pounds do not come up to a basic standard of housing or care, and the attendants on many occasions do not have any basic animal husbandry or breed identification training.   Licensed Kennels have to abide by a Code of Practice ( Breeding and Keeping of Dogs and Cats, so why shouldn't NSW pounds and Shelters also have to abide by a Code of Practice.

I audited a NSW pound and used the above States Code of Practice as my base line,  this pound failed the audit on many areas, and my recommendation were rejected as they stated they didn't have to accept my recommendations if NSW didn't have a Code of Practice.  So animals are still being mistreated, miss identified and un needlessly euthanized because of this.

I urge all caring animals lovers to sign this petition and have NSW put in place a Code of Practice urgently, so that all animals are given the proper care and reunited with their owners or given a second chance, and those that look after these animals receive proper training and are given minimum guidelines to follow.  this way they can be held accountable if they ignore the Code.
