Stop the funding to Centre for Invasive Solutions
The issue
A recent Federal Government report recommended that $20,000,000 funding be granted to the Centre For Invasive Solutions which is a private organisation which purports to target introduced species in Australia.
What's interesting and concerning is that this organisation currently receives funding from various farming organisations and state Government bodies. I question their motives as well, but cannot substantiate my views.
The Federal Government and state Government contribute an annual total of almost $6,000,000 annually to this organisation. This organisation has not to date had any significant impacts on any targeted species nor reduced the number of these animals despite significant funding.
I am amongst other issues concerned that public use of the money is not made publically available.
I am concerned that our society is in economic despair and money is fruitlessly being used for little to no result when we have people dying in hospital rooms dueto lack of beds, businesses going broke due to the impact of Covid, rising government debt and economic instability and yet the government contributes such a substantial amount of money to an private organisation.
I also find it concerning that in NSW the Government allowed land clearing which exceeded 200 times the size of Sydney (this is also annually), but then supports an organisation and attributes funding to manage Horses, deer and goats to name the principle targeted species of this organisation. Isn't such a stance hypocritical and defeatist? It's certainly concerning for me as a voter.
Organisation such as this support the use of 1080 poisons which is an indiscriminate killer and often (as you no doubt would have seen in the newspaper with all the recent deaths of native species) kills non targeted animals resulting in a long and lingering and extremely cruel death.
Furthermore, organisations such as this, support aerial culling which is a cruel practice of shooting from a moving helicopter through dense bush where well aimed shots are virtually impossible resulting in the maiming and wounding of animals which often take days to eventually die from blood loss or the inability to move.
I implore you to oppose any funding to the Centre for Invasive Solutions or any other private organisation with such a mandate. There are simply more pressing issues in our society and supporting cruel and inhumane practices should not be encouraged by the Government as it is not supported by the people of Australia.
Kind regards
