UNISA students deserve equal support from NSFAS.

Currently, students at contact universities receive NSFAS-funded meal allowances and Wi-Fi/internet access via accredited residences. But thousands of UNISA students — who also study full-time, attend online classes, and come from the same underprivileged backgrounds — are excluded simply because they are in a "distance learning" university.

This is unfair and outdated.

In reality, many UNISA students:

Spend long hours online attending lectures and submitting assignments
Pay for their own data or Wi-Fi monthly
Live away from home in rented accommodation to study effectively
Rely on social support just to eat
We call on NSFAS, the Department of Higher Education, and UNISA to:

Provide monthly meal allowances for qualifying UNISA students.
Include a Wi-Fi/data subsidy for online learning needs.
Review NSFAS funding policies to reflect the realities of digital and distance education in 2025.
We believe that education should be equally supported, no matter the mode of delivery.
