Petition updateOPEN TO ALL H-R '94 to Senator Ben Sasse '94 (R-NE) - Vote No on KavanaughMore on the Class of 1994 Petition to Senator Ben Sasse

Thank you for signing the petition from the Harvard Class of 1994 to Senator Ben Sasse asking him to vote NO on the Kavanaugh Confirmation.

This petition was written with the hope that it would attract signatures from classmates on both sides of the aisle.  I believe Republicans and Democrats can agree last week's hearings have demonstrated that this nomination has become way too political.  I realize that most of us are not Senator Sasse's constituents.  But I do believe this organized approach from us could have an impact on his thinking.

The Good News:  We have collected 200+ signatures.  This is approximately 12% of our class!

The So-So News: Senator Sasse voted in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to advance Judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination.  HOWEVER he could still vote differently at the Senate confirmation, so I believe this petition is still relevant.

The Ask:  So far I have just circulated the petition via FB on the Class page and through my personal network.  Our Class Page only has ~50% of the class.  If you think a Harvard '94 friend might have missed it, or that this information might be additionally useful to encouraging someone to sign, please forward it on.  It would be great to grow the number of signatures before the probable full Senate vote on Friday.

Personal Note: I knew Ben Sasse as an undergraduate because we were both in Hurlbut freshman year.  We were not good friends, but I have no personal ax to grind.  I respect and admire the Senator for his courage to run and hold public office particularly in this political climate, and I do not support all of his positions. As an educator and citizen, I found reading his book, The Vanishing American Adult, worthwhile.

Another helpful news story about Senator Sasse can be found here.

Again, many thanks for your participation and thank you in advance for continuing to spread the word.  We have (another) important week ahead for the health and safety of American Democracy. In trying to remain optimistic, I hope this small action can have some impact and make a difference.

Best,

Aren Cohen '94
