Tell the Novato City Council We Deserve a Civil Leader

The Issue

Problem
We, Novato residents, do not believe that Novato Mayor Pro Tem Pam Drew abides by our core value of respect for all, nor has she demonstrated the ability to foster community participation.

Many of the undersigned have observed Council Member Drew’s behavior at City Council meetings. These observations have regrettably led us to strongly believe that the City of Novato would be negatively impacted if Council Member Drew were to be selected Mayor.

We do not make this request based on any political differences, but because we believe that her behavior is incompatible with the decorum required for the fair, transparent, and respectful conduct of City Council meetings.

Specifically, among other things Council Member Drew has:

• Acted disrespectfully numerous times towards other Council members, City staff, and public speakers
• Chastised residents waiting to speak at a Council meeting for using their electronic devices to take notes
• Told speakers that they had no idea what they were talking about
• Interrupted the Mayor and told him to “stop it” while he was giving his remarks
• Refused to sit down and speak into the microphone like other Council members
• Publicly reprimanded an audience member by name during a Council meeting
• Publicly mocked a constituent who filed a complaint against Drew by creating and wearing a shirt that referred to the complaint derisively.

Solution
We, the undersigned residents of the City of Novato, respectfully request that the Novato City Council select as the next Mayor of Novato a council member who abides by our core value of respect for all, and who has demonstrated the ability to foster community participation.

Your constituents are asking you to choose our town's leader wisely. Actions have consequences, and your job as a Council member requires you to abide by the City of Novato's Policy Manual, and hold fellow Council members accountable.

Please, sign this petition only if you live or work in Novato. Thank you.
