Bring back the Women and Children's Unit at CRHCC

The Women and Children's Unit in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, Nova Scotia has been closed since March 27, as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Mothers in Cumberland County are being asked to travel to Truro to deliver their babies, and for many women in our county, this could mean travelling up to two and a half hours, while in labour, to access the care they need. This is unfair, unacceptable, and is causing immense stress for pregnant women in this area.

Cumberland has come through this pandemic so far with no positive COVID-19 cases. It is time to make a plan to re-open our Women and Children's Unit.

Maggie's Place is a busy family resource centre that supports many parents through their pregnancies and early years with their children. We believe in the value and importance of the work that is done in the Women and Children's unit in our hospital. We are asking the Minister of Health, The Honourable Randy Delorey, as well as Dr. Brendan Carr and Nurse Sally Loring of the Nova Scotia Health Authority to provide a date and a plan for re-opening the unit. With no clear plan in place, the future of our Women and Children's unit is uncertain.

Please sign to tell the Minister of Health and the Nova Scotia Health Authority that you believe the healthcare needs of pregnant women and babies in Cumberland County needs to be made a priority!
