Notts County Council: Sort Event-Day Traffic Around Trent Bridge NOW
The Issue
I value living next to two internationally-renowned sports venues – and I hope to see the National Watersports Centre secure celebrated status again through ongoing work by the East Midlands Mayor and our MP.
But on event days, the area is overwhelmed by badly parked cars, severe congestion and delayed buses. Residents are frequently unable to park anywhere near their own homes. These issues are happening now, and are not related to any future developments or ongoing planning applications.
This situation affects both residents and visitors. It impacts quality of life, disrupts local transport and creates unnecessary tension during what should be exciting events for everyone. I welcome ongoing discussions about longer term solutions, but we need some improvement now.
As the councillor for West Bridgford North, I am clear that Nottinghamshire County Council already has the powers to make a real difference, using proven solutions like Controlled Parking Zones which are successfully deployed in other cities, subject to local consultation.
The Council has sat on its hands on this issue for too long … but perhaps the new administration will accept responsibility and take action. It is time to finally see some leadership on this matter.
We, therefore, call on Nottinghamshire County Council to take urgent, decisive action to get ahead of the game and adopt measures to reduce traffic, parking and transport disruption caused by local events now. It already has the appropriate powers; it just needs to use them.
