Why this petition matters

A beautiful park...with a busy road running through it. Let’s make it safer and more pleasant for everyone by putting an end to speeding and rat-running and give people more space to walk, cycle, run, scoot and play. This is more important than ever because of the Coronavirus pandemic, when we all need enough space to keep safe.

The park is beautiful but cars drive too close and too fast when I cycle along here and it makes me feel scared. I would feel worried about cycling with children along here, but there are so few places where they can ride safely, and these places are now too busy to give everyone the space they need.

The problem is that Victoria Embankment is used as a short-cut for cars. Nottingham City Council should make the road car-free by closing it to through-traffic, creating a new cycle route and leaving the paths free for people walking.

If people need to drive to visit the park then they still can, but people will no longer be able to use the park as a short-cut to drive somewhere else.
