Too many dogs have escaped their homes after fireworks, terrified by the sudden noise. Some of these frightened pets end up being hit by cars, causing heartbreak for their owners and families.

We are asking our local councils to provide an option for pet owners to opt in to be notified of local fireworks displays. This simple step will prevent many pets from becoming lost or injured.

Loud noises like fireworks can cause fear and anxiety in animals who otherwise would not escape.  By providing advance notice, pet owners can take necessary precautions such as keeping their pets indoors, or with company, during these events.

How could it work?  Annual pet registration forms & council websites can include an option to "Please notify me (by text or email) 48 hours before local fireworks are scheduled to occur."
