Not Just For Christmas - Protect Breeding Dogs

Not Just For Christmas - Protect Breeding Dogs

The Issue

Protect breeding dogs by supporting my Dog Welfare (Amendment) Bill 2025.

Every dog deserves a life free from suffering.

Right now, countless breeding dogs are hidden behind closed doors, living in silence and pain. These are the dogs we never see, the mothers of the puppies sold prematurely, forced to breed over and over again in conditions that rob them of dignity and health.

That’s why I’ve introduced the Dog Welfare (Amendment) Bill 2025. This Bill will regulate breeding practices and outlaw harmful procedures that cause unnecessary suffering.

On 10th December, join me outside the Dáil for a dog protest at 1pm. Bring your dog and show the Government that you care, not just about your own pet, but about the thousands of unseen dogs trapped in breeding facilities. Let's be their voice.

Take action now by:

✅ Signing the petition to demand stronger protections for breeding dogs.

✅ Emailing your local TDs and Senators urging them to support my Bill with the template below.

✅ Joining our protest outside the Dáil on December 10th at 1pm.

Draft email to send to your local TDs and Senators:

Subjet:  Please Support Jennifer Whitmore's Dog Welfare Bill

"Dear representative,

I’m writing as your constituent to ask you to support Deputy Jennifer Whitmore's Dog Welfare (Amendment) Bill 2025, which seeks to strengthen welfare standards in dog breeding establishments across Ireland.

As we approach Christmas, many families will be considering getting a puppy. But behind the scenes, breeding dogs are often kept in poor conditions, bred too frequently, and subjected to invasive procedures that our weak legislation fails to protect them from. This Bill will introduce vital protections, including limits on breeding frequency, minimum standards of care, and a ban on surgical artificial insemination.

Ireland has a chance to lead on animal welfare and end the suffering caused by overbreeding and inadequate regulation. I urge you to attend the AV Room briefing on December 9th that Deputy Whitmore has organised and support her Bill when it is discussed in the Dáil on December 10th.

Please stand up for the dogs we don’t see, the ones who suffer so others can buy a puppy for Christmas.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

[Your name and address]"
