NOT AGAIN! Reject the Return of the Mental Health Rehabilitation Facility at Weymarks
The Issue
To: Ellie Hendry Planning Services
We, the undersigned residents, are calling on Ellie Hendry to REFUSE the application to Change of use of 4 dwelling houses from C3 (Residential Dwelling) to C2 (Residential Institution) at Numbers 5, 7, 9 & 11 Weymarks, Basildon, Essex, SS15 5PA back into a Mental Health Rehabilitation facility.
Weymarks is a Small Cul-De-Sac with Only 22 Houses, Including the 4 Properties Above, If this was to go ahead, That would mean 20% of the Street would be a Mental Health Rehabilitation Facility.
We’ve Already Lived Through This Nightmare Before.
These properties were a Mental Health Rehabilitation Facility until March 2013. For years, we put up with:
🚗 Cars Parked everywhere – blocking driveways, double-parked, and making our road a danger for families. Which is a Small Cul-De-Sac.
📢 Screaming, shouting, and patients running up and down the road at all hours, destroying the peace and quiet of the Cul-De-Sac.
😨 Staff struggling to contain patients who would wander onto the street, causing fear for our children and elderly neighbours.
It was a relief when it finally closed in 2013 and became normal family homes. For 10 years, But the residents that lived there were given 3 month's notice to move out.
Now They Want To Bring It Back—and the situation has evaluated as a proven failure. The council saw the problems last time. The applicant hasn't fixed the parking, hasn't addressed the noise, and certainly hasn't addressed the safeguarding nightmare of being near to four schools.
This Is Not About Stigma. We support mental health care. But this specific location is a proven failure. The council saw the problems last time. The applicant hasn't fixed the parking, hasn't addressed the noise, and certainly hasn't addressed the safeguarding nightmare of being near four schools.
We Are Calling On The Council To:
Acknowledge the historical failure of this site between 1993 and 2013.
Reject this application on the grounds of highway safety, noise nuisance, and safeguarding children in the four nearby schools.
Tell the applicant to find a suitable out-of-town location, Not a Family Street, which is a Cul-De-Sac, One way in and one way out, everyone has to go passed the 4 houses on the way into the street and on the way out of the street.
Please sign this petition to say: WE REMEMBER. WE WON'T GO BACK.
