In 2016 Colin Kaepernick took a knee, during the singing of the National Anthem, before a NFL game. He was protesting the constant police brutality which he saw in black and brown communities across America. He was widely criticized by many owners, coaches, players, the commissioner, and many fans for being anti-American and unpatriotic. At the height of his playing success he was blackballed from the league, and has not had a chance to play since. His stance has not waivered and he has donated millions of his own dollars and, additionally, raised millions more to contribute to raising awareness of this cause. In the past few weeks, with the murder of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and others, many Americans have taken notice and seen that there is a great disparity between the way black and white Americans live, and are policed. It could almost stand to reason that if the NFL had listened to Kaepernick back in 2016, and had become a voice to champion the fight against racism, and police brutality in African America communities, that George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmed Arbery might be alive today. Yesterday Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner said that they should have done more. That's four years too late! And it's also, where, a man unjustly lost his job! The NFL needs to publicly apologize to Colin Kaepernick! It must be said, however, that Kaepernick has gone on to serve a bigger purpose and the entire world, from New York to Norway to Nigeria has taken notice. His dedication to the humanitarian cause of the reduction of police brutality is a work for which he should be commended, and it's bigger than anything which could have taken place on any playing field.
