For decades The Barrels Ale House has been a cornerstone of the night-life and community in Berwick Upon Tweed, as well as being the hub for live music in the area. Their regular nights of live music not only provided a much needed source of entertainment, gave locals the chance to experience acts from out of town and from all over the world, but The Barrels also provided the opportunity for new bands, young acts, and local performers to showcase their talents. There are very few bands and musicians that have existed in Berwick, that have not played in the infamous Barrels Basement - it is the life and soul of the music scene in Berwick.

Due to noise complaints from nearby residents (who were well aware of the pubs position and its regular live music when they moved in), The Barrels Ale House was recently served with a noise abatement order. 

This decision is one that will not only effect The Barrels, but it will also have dramatic consequences on both the live music scene and the Berwick community as a whole. The issue of residents moving next to an establishment and then complaining is not a new one, and one that has affected many pubs and venues all over the country, always resulting in a negative change - now it is threatening our community too. 

The aim of this petition is to appeal the decision made by Northumberland County Council to limit and restrict live music in The Barrels Ale House, Berwick Upon Tweed.
