NISD Forcing ALL Teachers to Return to Work- Despite Medical Condtions

The Issue

Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas (NISD) has informed all teachers that they must return to work on October 19th. This includes teachers who were previously granted permission to teach from home due to medical conditions that put them at high risk for COVID19 and complications.

The district informed their teachers that they were to return to work or take unpaid leave. As many people are aware, teachers do not make enough to have the luxury to take unpaid leave. At this point, the district is asking that teachers choose between their health and safety or their job.

Students are allowed to remain virtual for the remainder of the year, but the teachers are not. Instead, Dr. Woods has asked all teachers to return to the building to teach online and in-person simultaneously.

COVID19 cases in Texas are still on the rise with no end in sight, yet the teachers who were granted work from home are expected to return. Teachers at these schools are testing positive, some as recently as today (Oct. 8th) yet the district has not yielded on their position or offered any advice or compromise.

Please sign and share this petition to bring attention to the unfair treatment of NISD teachers who have put their hearts and souls into their students, but do not want to sacrifice their life.
