The student body of Harlan High School condemns the repeated use of racial slurs by Mrs. Dejonghe, a white teacher, in her classroom. Steps have been taken to educate her and report this incident to the administration, but they have failed to respond with appropriate consequences and have failed to consider the comfort of their Black students. We urge the school board of Northside Independent School District and the administration of Harlan High School to hold Mrs. Dejonghe accountable and to fire her for this repeated offense.
