TWO: MARC IVES ANNOUNCES RUN FOR CONGRESS
Local teacher challenges incumbent Rep. Angie Craig in Aug. 13 Democratic primary to offer anti-war alternativeLocal K-8 teacher Marc Ives recently filed to run for Congress in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District against three-term incumbent pro-war candidate Angie Craig. Early voting started on June 28 for the August 13 DFL primary.
“Many people I have spoken with who supported Angie Craig in the past are disappointed with her recent votes for genocide in Gaza and her support for extreme MAGA bills that favor corporations and powerful special interests like AIPAC rather than the people of the district,” Ives said. “I am running for three distinct reasons: to End the Violence in Gaza by stopping weapon shipments to Israel; Protect Reproductive Rights of women nationally, not just in Minnesota; and Fight Corruption caused by big-money interests and companies who think they can buy members of Congress, including Angie Craig.”
“The thought of doing nothing while thousands of children in Gaza were killed made me sick” he said. “So when I saw Angie Craig had voted to give $26 billion in weapons, I knew I had to give Minnesota voters win our district an alternative.”
Ives said he understands Angie Craig has millions in her corporate campaign war chest, including hundreds of thousands from donors like AIPAC and those tied to the right-wing regime in Israel led by Benjamin Netanyahu. Ives believes the people of CD-2 are looking for true representation from someone who cares about their daily lives - rather than appeasing big corporations and PACs.
“I live off a teacher’s salary and have all summer to meet people around the district and knock on doors,” Ives said. “Sufficed to say, we are running a David vs. Goliath campaign here - but the stakes could not be higher.”
