Petition to the NT Government and DIPL, C/O Parliament House, State Square, Darwin NT
2017 Subject Matter:
The N.T. Government has recently announced that it is proceeding on schedule with major capital works to construct Barneson Boulevard via the old Darwin Primary School/Frog Hollow Heritage Precinct through to Cavenagh Street and remover 50 established healthy trees growing in the Frog Hollow Precinct. The ratepayers and taxpayers of Darwin have now had enough of secretive Government and elite bureaucratic planners and inadequate community consultation processes
Statement of Issues and urgent action required by the petition:
The Friends and Supporters of Save our Frog Hollow Heritage Precinct Alliance believe that the proposed Barneson Boulevard road development must stop at the 56 McMinn Street junction and must not intrude past the Frog Hollow Precinct.
There is absolutely no empirical evidence to suggest that constructing a four (4) lane sealed road through the Frog Hollow Heritage Precinct through to Cavenagh Street is the best and only solution to the perceived safety and peak hour traffic congestion at the Tiger Brennan Drive/McMinn Street and Bennet Street intersection. “The road to nowhere” from McMinn Street to Cavenagh Street is completely unnecessary and a huge waste of ratepayers and taxpayers’ money on the project. We cannot allow the NT Government’s defective design plans to go ahead without urgent amendment and changes to include the Community’s reasonable demand not to desecrate the historic integrity of the Frog Hollow Precinct. This petition is being circulated to show the strong high level of support that we know exists in Darwin and the wider Community for the original DPS Frog Hollow Historical Precinct area to be preserved intact. We must prevent destruction and vandalism to our priceless and irreplaceable asset. Please no roadway into 56 McMinn Street, Darwin.
We, the undersigned, reject any plans to construct the proposed road through the Frog Hollow Historical and Arts Precinct and do not want removal of any healthy trees already on site. NT Government, please listen to our concerns and do not ignore our feedback. Be more accountable and transparent to the wider community being adversely affected by defective project design.
