Reopen the Ingleton Branch Line with stations at Sedbergh, Barbon and Ingleton.

The Issue

The Ingleton Branch Line was a through line serving the towns of Sedbergh, Barbon and Ingleton. The line was closed in 1956, since then these towns have been cut off from the rest of the North of England with little or no public transport.

Reopening this line would provide the locals with reliable public transport and reduce traffic. The area is also popular with walkers and the railway would reduce the need for the walkers to drive to where they start their walk from.

With the Settle to Carlisle Line currently being out of traffic the line would be a useful diversionary route and could also take some freight of the West Coast Main Line.

Once the line has reopened an hourly Carlisle to Skipton service could be run calling at all intermediate stations in the line.
