Heaton Chapel Station has seen an incredible growth in use over the past 10 years, with passenger numbers pushing almost 850,000 per year. 

The Heatons is a popular community for young families and commuters to Manchester and Stockport and trains are often overcrowded and sometimes commuters cannot get on the train they need. Similar scenes are often seen coming back to Heaton Chapel from Manchester in the evening rush hour.

In March 2018 we campaigned to get Northern Rail to reverse their decision to cut services from Heaton Chapel to Manchester Piccadilly from 4 services an hour to 3. We’re delighted that Northern have finally reversed these cuts and have committed to sorting out the timings of services out too.

Cllr David Sedgwick and the Labour team have now launched petition to get 5 services per-hour between Heaton Chapel and Manchester at peak times. Especially between 8 – 9, where there are currently 4 services, but there is a need for a train between 8.32 and 8.45.
