Danielle McConnell started this petition to Northern Ireland Executive (Stormont Castle Stormont Estate Belfast BT4 3TT)

As it stands live music is only allowed at weddings with a religious ceremony in Northern Ireland. I am due to get married next Saturday and I am having a humanist ceremony. This is a legal ceremony in Northern Ireland; however my venue is not allowed to have a harpist or musician play during this.

I feel this is discrimination due to my beliefs and is an infringement on my human rights. Ridiculously, I am allowed to have magicians, hypnotists, and dancers as entertainment but I cannot have a harpist play me up the aisle on my wedding day. As you can imagine this is totally devastating for myself and my family. I have been planning our wedding for more than four years and we have had to make many changes to our day; however being discriminated against because we have chosen a beautiful, inclusive humanist ceremony deeply upsets me and concerns me that the Northern Ireland Executive do not represent the people in this country adequately.

This is also a devastating blow to all musicians across Northern Ireland who have already suffered losses over lockdown and are now being told they cannot play for their couples on their wedding day.

Please sign my petition in the hope that the Executive see sense and allow live music at all wedding ceremonies, before it is too late.
