Save the 400 year old Higham Ferrers 3-Oaks tree from being cut down.

The Issue

The 3 oaks tree is planned to be removed when the Chowns Mill road works start. It is approx 400 years old and has been a landmark between Higham Ferrers and Irthingborough before heavy traffic.

It isn't in the way of the new road, it is being cut down in case it is damaged by the lowering of a road ( that was raised a few years ago) to the original level. No investigation has been made into the root plate.

The road works are needed but can we at least try to work with the oak in situ?

The highways agency have agreed the design - and removal of the tree- without appreciating the history of the landmark tree. It is known as 3 oaks because it splits into 3 main branches or trunks about a meter from the ground.

It was used as a marker and was in the old hedgerow. Several people have stories about how their parents showed them the tree.
