Keep A361 Ashby Road (Drayton Reservoir) open for Middlemore residents .
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call upon Daventry District Council to prevent the closure of the A361 alongside Drayton reservoir and to take any action, legal if necessary, to stop this. We URGE Daventry District Council to propose that the services for Micklewell Park are redirected via Northern Valley Park which will allow the A361 to remain open or that a safer alternative is found. We ALSO ask that Daventry District Council do whatever is necessary to expedite the works to widen the current Heartlands bus link to make it safe for all general traffic exiting and entering the estate.
Why ? Northamptonshire County Council propose to close A361 alongside Drayton reservoir for 6 weeks !! This is for the purpose of delivering key services (gas, electric, water etc) to Micklewell Park development. Highways expect all motor traffic to use the bus link to Heartlands Industrial Estate which is single track road for the use of buses and construction traffic only. It is an unadopted road and totally unsafe to use.
Risk ? We question whether Highways have actually carried out a risk assessment as to how this will affect the safety and wellbeing of Middlemore residents ? There are also two construction sites directly next to the bus exit road and steady stream of construction traffic which often queues blocking the road. This route out of Middlemore is totally dangerous.
The planned closure is completely preposterous to the Middlemore residents who will effectively be cut off from safe routes out of the estate- workers, families, children getting to school. It will also impact our local business Select Convenience and Middlemore Farm Public House who rely on the trade and footfall of non local residents. Not to mention that emergency services - police, fire services and ambulances may be delayed from reaching people in need !
