Increase the sentences of Toby Humphreys and Jac Parry Roberts.
The Issue
On 17th August 2014, two men - Toby Humphreys, 22, and Jac Parry Roberts, 19 - tortured a fawn to death in Gwynedd, Wales - and filmed it. Then, on 18th May 2015, the two pleaded guilty to killing the young deer in Caernarfon Magistrates court, but were only sentenced to eight weeks in prison.
Humphreys allegedly strangled the baby deer with his hands before standing on its neck as it tried to escape from horrific torture, and Roberts was seen in the video repeatedly punching the fawn, and allegedly slit its throat with a knife later on.
Sergeant Rob Taylor of the North Wales Police rural crime team described the investigation as "very unpleasant" and said he "felt physically sick" after seeing the video, and head magistrate Peter Lunt-Williams described the crime as "barbaric." Clearly, witnessing the crime was extremely disturbing, so why were they only sentenced to eight weeks?
Sergeant Rob Taylor also said, "We will continue to proactively pursue those who engage in this behaviour." I'd be happy with that, if eight weeks was long enough to change somebody's behaviour for good. Who knows, in eight weeks it could happen again.
If this was done to a human, the men would have served years in prison - but humans are animals too, just like the fawn. Killing any animal in such a disgusting way is just as bad as killing a human in that way.
Other animals don't communicate in the same way as humans - so we need to be a voice for them. Please, let true justice be done and petition for a much longer sentence.
