North Northants Council are planning to introduce a £40 charge per household from October 2022 for the collection of green garden waste. The service is currently free to residents in Corby, Wellingborough and Kettering. Residents in East Northants currently pay £55.

North Northants Council have confirmed that the cost per household of delivering the service is £22. They will be making over £2 million per year from profit on this scheme by overcharging every household by £18. They have not explained why they are planning to overcharge, or what the extra revenue raised will be used for (perhaps for their recent 10% pay award the conservative councillors recently awarded themselves?) 

We believe that this scheme is regressive, does not support their own pledge to be Carbon Net Zero by 2030, will result in huge amounts of green waste flytipping, and will be hugely expensive to administer. People are rightly furious, local residents are already stating they will not sign up to the scheme as they already pay for this service in their council tax. 

Please sign this petition so we can show the executive of North Northants Council that they are badly out of touch with the residents of the unitary authority. This service should be universally free for all households and the policy will not work.
