Recently, Nick Fletcher, Conservative Mayoral candidate for Doncaster, and former MP for Doncaster Don Valley, posted a passionate message on Facebook, criticizing Labour politicians for failing to scrutinise developments and stand up for local communities. He railed against solar farms and their impact on the countryside, claiming that elected officials should defend local residents and protect their environment.
Here’s a direct quote from his post:
“This underlines why it’s so important that we have elected politicians who will scrutinise and stand up for you... Solar farms blight our countryside and they’re not welcome on my watch.”
We agree that local communities deserve proper scrutiny, accountability, and protection from damaging or disruptive developments.
So why is it that when residents in Crowle raise concerns about Severn Trent’s ongoing operations, unexplained tanker activity, health impacts, drainage issues, and conflicts of interest — we are ignored, silenced, and sidelined?
Why is our own MP publicly opposing solar farms, yet saying nothing about the upheaval in his own backyard?
It’s time for our elected officials to apply the same standards of scrutiny and transparency to ALL developments — especially those impacting residents right now.
