NLC Residents demand free waste uplifts and unrestricted access to recycling centres

The Issue

North Lanarkshire council have adopted failing waste management policies in an attempt to reduce cost, leading to increased fly tipping across our community.  It's time to make a stand and say Enough is Enough.  We don't want North Lanarkshire to turn into a tip as a result of the failing policies of this council.

Special Waste Uplifts now cost £25

As a Resident and council tax payer you can no longer request a free special waste uplift.  Some may recall a time when NLC provided free skips to residents.  When these were removed we were assured that we would have free special uplifts.  As time passed these free special uplifts were restricted to 3 occasions per year.  Now these free uplifts have been removed and on top of your council tax you must now pay £25 for a special uplift.  If you are a family on low income and cannot afford to dispose of your waste.  What do you do?

Recycling sites continue to impose unnecessary restrictions

The hours of our Recycling Sites have been cut back and unfair rules restricting access to waste recycling sites by residents with vans and trailers have been applied.  Most sites now close before 6:00pm.

Vans and trailers are now not permitted access the recycling sites at Airdrie, Shotts and Bellshill, half of the available waste sites.

In addition residents with a van or trailer

  1. Need to phone the NLC contact centre and book into a specific half hour time slot for attending one of the 3 sites permitted.
  2. The contact centre is not open on a Saturday or Sunday so you cannot book into a site at the weekend.
  3. Must disclose on the call exactly what will be dumped.  This is then checked at the site and any items not declared will be turned away.
  4. Are limited to a maximum of 12 visits per annum.
  5. Slots are limited.  I was notified last week that there were currently 2 slots per half hour for vans and trailers at Coatbridge which now covers all of Coatbridge, Airdrie, Bellshill, Viewpark and surrounding area.

Why should residents with vans and trailers receive a sub standard service and why is this council making it so difficult to dispose of domestic waste?

These policies throw obstacles in the way of residents looking to do the right thing when NLC should be making it easy to recycle waste.  The impact is an epidemic of fly tipping.

If like me, you are tired of these failing policies and demand change, please sign this petition and send a message to our local council administration that enough is enough.
