LATEST UPDATE: Contrary to reports the Windmill @ Charlton has NOT been saved Yet! Due to great support via this petition and individual objections the ‘Developer’ removed his application for retrospective planning. As of yet NHDC have taken no action. The building has been completely gutted with new windows fitted, porch built and access to the first floor living accommodation removed with an external entry to be built. The Developer has now marketed the site as follows (1) Blank Canvas i.e. NO toilets, NO cellar, NO bar, NO kitchen...NOTHING! Nil premium but expected costs of £200,000 + £35K annually -10yr lease. (2) Upstairs flat NOT for pub use £12k rent (Still ACV protected and will require change of use from A4 to C3) http://www.everardcole.co.uk/find-a-property/property.php?id=135 It is obvious that the developer is making it unviable as a pub and has also stated that he will board up the car park turning this beautiful riverside location into an eyesore despite being in a conservation area. We will be launching a new campaign to request that all these matters be discussed at a full committee meeting of the council and will be contacting various ministers including the Pubs Minister Marcus Jones and various national and local groups to support this campaign to save the Windmill and other pubs at threat and send out a clear message to all such developers. CAN YOU SPARE 15MINS OF YOUR TIME TOMORROW (SAT 6th FEB) TO SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE TO THE DEVELOPER AND THE COUNCIL THAT WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS FLAGRANT DISREGARD OF ‘ASSET OF COMMUNITY VALUE’ STATUS AND EXPECT NHDC TO ISSUE TO PROTECT ITS STATUS AS GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES. THERE WILL BE A PHOTO OPPORTUNITY WITH THE LOCAL NEWSPAPERS AND A CHANCE TO DISCUSS OUR NEXT MOVES TO PROTECT ALL COMMUNITY ASSETS AND OUR HERITAGE. SAT 6th FEB AT 12.30pm - The Windmill, Charlton SG5 2AE
