North Devon Animal Ambulance is closing, we need a replacement for this service.

The Issue

Advocate the need to establish a New, Local, Unpaid Animal Rescue Facility

We are not asking for money, just your support for this petition.

The Exeter RSPCA branch have advised that they are unable to provide support animal rescue in North Devon as no funds are available for this.

As an example of their reliance on the NDAA, recently the RSPCA has directed a person to the NDAA regarding an injured fox; that person was calling from South Wales, some 150 miles away!!  Sadly, this is not an unusual referral.

In the last couple of weeks we have dealt with a lot of wildlife calls, and in the past week taken in two cats; one reluctantly signed over due to the owners accommodation changes, and one abandoned young cat.

The calls to help wildlife and domestic animals  continue to come in, and every year, as winter approaches, a heart-wrenching trend repeats itself in North Devon. Some domestic animals, once loved and cherished, are abandoned by their owners to make room for new Christmas puppies and kittens. Then during the year there are also genuine cases where elderly pet owners have to enter care homes, having to sign over their pet, as well as (increasingly) people having to move into rented homes where no pets are allowed. A sanctuary for these bewildered animals existed in the North Devon Animal Ambulance (NDAA), a unique institution entirely run by volunteers, which could accommodate, care for, and rehome these animals. However, this vital hub of love and respite has been closed due to the retirement and ill-health of its trustees. Now, these four-legged victims will be left without support.

After 23 years, sadly the NDAA had to step back. Everyone deserves a place they can call home. Let us work together to ensure our animal friends have theirs.
