I wanted to reach out to all the parents I could to bring awareness of the issues facing myself and the current leadership at Dakota Elementary. My son recently was victim, of poor protocol, procedure & policy(investigation and information gathering is ongoing) which resulted in a concussion during his time at recess. We are still waiting to view the video evidence because we are not 100% confident in the information we were provided which resulted in the injury. This is not to address our sons injury, but more so to address the lack of policy in place regarding injuries, bullying, racism and/or threats towards other students.

The Principal of Dakota Elementary, as well as current Superintendent  have not been as forthcoming to helping us find resolutions to current issues facing Dakota Elementary. We are seeking change in policy to where there is CLEAR and CONCRETE policy in place to protect the victim as well as seek accountability for the offenders. There are many policies in place to protect the perpetrator, but nothing is set for the victim. Protection of the victim is where change needs to happen.  What we are seeking is transparent policy to protect the victim, as well as seek help to correct the behavior of the perpetrator.

I believe as do many, change is required for growth. Bullying, Violence and Discrimination within the learning environment should not be tolerated. Reporting should be encouraged and protection should be provided to those who report any one of these issues. Accountability is a must. Protection should be provided for the child who is victim to any of these issues. The current policies within Minot Public Schools does not provide clear and transparent answers to any of these issues. What we need are updated policies to clearly identify actions to be taken for both the victim and the perpetrator. Protection for those who speak up against any type of racism, bullying, or any types of threats made. Let’s make our voices heard and inspire change for the next group of children who attend school in Minot Public Schools.
