DEMAND NCSU to release a statement and action plan to support their international students
This petition made change with 6,528 supporters!
We demand that Chancellor Randy Woodson and all NCSU departments lobby for their international student body, in response to ICE modifications to temporarily exempt non-immigrant international students from taking online classes at NCSU, in the U.S, due to COVID-19. We demand that NCSU releases a statement with a plan of action to exemplify that they will stand up for their international students who will be negatively affected by this decision.
More context about the situation:
On July 6th, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program announced modifications for non-immigrant students taking online classes in the United States. The modifications would not allow international students to remain in the United State if their college offers online-only classes. International students affected by this would be forced to transfer to another college for in-person classes or would be forced to leave the country.
Many international students come to the United States for the opportunities, resources, financial aid and scholarships that are not accessible to them in their home countries. Being forced to transfer is not financially viable for many. Returning home would force many international students to hinder their studies because they might not have access to the resources they need such as the internet, electricity or other.
