North Carolina Pet Sale Ban
North Carolina Pet Sale Ban
The Issue
Every year 1.5 million animal shelters euthanize approximately 670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats. These unsettlingly high numbers can be significantly reduced through the enactment of pet sale bans. A Pet Sale Ban prohibits pet stores to sell dogs, cats, and rabbits, that are not from shelters or rescues. Pet sale bans have been enacted in states like California, and I think North Carolina should join! Not only will pet sale bans reduce the number of euthanized animals in shelters, but it will also help shut down puppy mills where most big name pet stores get their animals from. Although the Animal Welfare Act of 1966 was put in place to protect animal rights, the majority of facilitations that fall under the category of "puppy mills" are licensed. Signing this petition will save thousands of animal's lives!
