Impeach NC Governer Pat McCrory

The Issue

The list of grievances against the standing governor of North Carolina are many and complex. The overarching grievance is his flagrant and wanton disregard for the health, safety and general welfare of North Carolinian, the most recent of which on March 23rd, 2016 intentionally and directly puts non-criminal individuals in the direct path of discrimination. Governor McCrory consistently places the welfare of an upper class corporate and socio-economic elite above the majority of North Carolinians. Specifically: 1. In Feb. of 2013 McCrory signed a law that took federal unemployment benefits away from 70,000 North Carolinians. The Governor regards this as "tough love." 2. The Governor signed a bill that ended teacher tenure, cut thousands of teacher assistant positions and increased class size. This was called "Improving Public Education." In his next breath he approved the use of state funds to support private education -- $10 million of so-called "Opportunity Grants." 3. McCrory refused Medicaid expansion, denying healthcare to over 500,000 uninsured. This despite knowing the federal government would pay 90 percent for the first 3 years, bring in $13 billion for hospitals over 10 years, and create as many as 25,000 jobs in the state. 4. McCrory refused to create a state medical exchange to facilitate signing up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. 5. McCrory signed legislation that repealed the Racial Justice Act, thus denying the possibility that racial bias led a jury to sentence a murderer to death rather than a life in prison. 6. Evidenced by his cozy relationship with former 29-year employer Duke Energy, he is systematically dismantling the Duke's regulatory body, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, exactly what his former employer wants. 7. In response to Charlotte's anti-discrimination ordinance, McCrory passed a bill that eliminates every anti-discrimination ordinance *in the state* and removes any negative consequences for those who violate the state's ban on racial and gender discrimination. Not only that, but NC cities will not be permitted to raise their wages locally, hurting low-income workers living in big cities where their labor is most needed, in industries like construction and banking.
