On August 8, 2020, Dexter Malik Duncan was involved in an altercation that left two people dead. Dexter not only had to watch his best friend get murdered he also had to make a split second decision to shoot a man he considered his friend. This resulted in Dexter killing the man. Dexter was clearly in fear of his life. Dexter clearly had NO intent on harming anyone prior to seeing another man murdered three feet away from him. Dexter had to choose to live or die. This incident in no way warrants ANY murder charge let alone a Capital Murder charge. I feel the reason Dexter’s rights are being ignored is because he is a convicted felon of a nonviolent crime. Law enforcement was told by everyone in the home that Dexter was protecting himself from imminent danger. Dexter was in the wrong for possessing a firearm. Dexter carries a gun for protection and had he not been armed I (his mother) would be planning a funeral instead of writing this petition. Dexter Duncan deserves justice immediately.
