NEW LEGISLATION INTRODUCED IS SURE TO END NC SEAFOOD HARVEST AND TAKE SEAFOOD OFF YOUR TABLE! Please keep sharing! Every time this petition is signed, an email alert is sent directly to coastal legislators, as well as to the blanket email address for all NC Representatives and Senators. It's still very important to keep the momentum strong, especially in the light of recent legislation filed on April 20 in the NC House of Representatives. Dubbed the Coastal Fisheries Conservation/Economic Development Act of 2017, this bill could be the final nail in the coffin of commercial fishermen and coastal heritage. Words including "sustainable harvest" are nixed to say conservation, and the word "regulate" is used repeatedly. The language resembles the propaganda of special interest groups that lobby to put commercial fishermen out of business for the sake of "conservation." This is about all seafood harvest: shrimp, shellfish, finfish, crabs, oysters - everything harvested in NC waters. Commercial fishermen earn a living on multiple species of shellfish, finfish and crustations. Therefore, respect for the resource is certainly a top priority for them. Their livelihood depends on it. Please help keep our watermen working and our coastal economy in tact by demanding locally caught seafood on your table. Don't let the special interest groups take away this right. On behalf of coastal citizens and lovers of fresh seafood, thanks so much for your support. Keep sharing!
