Outlaw animal abusers from owning or being in possession of an animal.
The Issue
Animal abuse is a serious issue that is only growing more serious each day. Every 10 seconds an animal is abused. Recently there was a story on WRAL about a dog that was abused by her owner in a domestic violence crime. The three month old puppy was abused and the owner tried to cut her leg off in an attempt to punish the other dog owner. The puppy was found clinging onto her life in the woods. She is now safe, out of surgery (expecting to walk again) and going to be up for adoption to a good family after recovery. Although, she is safe this will emotionally and mentally scar her. Animals do not have their own voice they cannot stand up for themselves, so it is our job as humans to help them. I would like North Carolina lawmakers to make a law stating that it is illegal for someone who has committed animal abuse, child abuse, domestic violence, and/or physical assualt have the right to own, be in the possession or work/volunteer with animals. Those that commit a felony have the right to bear arms taken away from them, so why shouldn't those that have abused a living thing have the right of owning an animal taken away. As an animal owner myself I know that animals need our protection and look up to their owners for love, help and support. I know that this will not stop animal abuse entirely but it will be the first step to stop it and decrease it. Please help me make it illegal to own an animal for those that have abused, harmed and/or killed one.
