NC Governor Pat McCrory needs to resign, now!
The Issue
By signing HB2 into law, you have demonstrated your blatant, and utter disregard for the citizens of this state, and for their local authorities to decide matters of LOCAL impact and importance. House Bill 2 had consequences and impacts reaching far, far away from the stated purpose of "protecting our women and children."
Not only did HB2 remove what few protections our LGBTQIA brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, parents or children have, with one signature, you removed the right of any citizen of the State of North Carolina to sue an employer for discrimination in a state court. For ANY protected class of citizen - Women, minorities, the elderly, etc. You removed the ability for local authorities to address local issues such as wage rates or discrimination being done by housing, sales or service providers, when their citizens petition for relief.
When you signed HB2 into law, without allowing for any kind of period for informed debate, you effectively admitted your collusion with elements in the state legislature to pass a law that you knew would draw substantial opposition if it became the subject of normal political debate. You aided and abetted the legislature in passing a law that you know is morally reprehensible and legally indefensible. You signed a bill making HB2 a law, knowing that getting it nullified through federal courts, or through the normal political process of repeal would cost the taxpayers of this state untold millions of dollars.
At best, you are willfully delusional in believing that HB2 is not in direct violation of federal regulations already in place, and effecting the allocation of billions of dollars of federal funds, or you are willfully, and knowingly lying to the citizens of North Carolina about the impact HB2 will have on education and other funding. You are either willfully delusional about the impact your signature on that law would have on business investment and expansion in North Carolina, or you simply do not care that your decision was going to cost the citizens of North Carolina billions of dollars in lost wages, lost benefits, and lost tax revenue from new and growing business investment.
Therefore, sir, I and the following undersigned people, call for your immediate resignation from the Office of the Governor for the State of North Carolina.
Respectfully submitted,
- C. Geoffrey Wingard
