S.B. 514 is a Senate Bill that, if passed, will take away trans youth (anyone under 21 is considered a minor) in North Carolina's right to hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and important surgeries. It is called the Youth Health Protection Act, but instead of protecting lives, it is endangering the lives of people with gender dysphoria. This bill will force trans youth to go through semi-irreversible biological changes that do not correlate with their identity. This poses a severe threat to mental health crises and suicide rates among trans youth in NC. Trans rights are being used as a political tool amongst Republican Senators of North Carolina for job security.
