North Carolina General Assembly: Remove heterosexual specific language from 115C‑81

North Carolina General Assembly: Remove heterosexual specific language from 115C‑81
The Issue
NC Statue 115C-81 requires that North Carolina teachers inform students "...that a mutually faithful monogamous heterosexual relationship in the context of marriage is the best lifelong means of avoiding sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS." Adding the qualifier "heterosexual" implies that homosexuals are incapable of having a faithful monogamous relationship. This is simply not true. Such a declaration is insulting to the residents of North Carolina.
Bullying is an epidemic that children face daily and it’s one that’s taken a critical toll on the children of our state. LGBTQ children are more prone to being bullied and the last thing they need is to be told BY THEIR SCHOOLS they’re less than their classmates because of their sexual orientation. This has to be changed. We request the NC General Assembly remove this language from this state law.
