The intersection into and out of Compass Pointe in Leland NC is a very dangerous spot. Several accidents, one a fatality, have occurred at this location. Making a left out of the development to get on to 74/76 East is extremely dangerous as you need to clear 2 lanes of traffic going 55 miles per hour from a dead stop in order to get to the median. The median itself has NO clear direction and is usually a "free for all" for drivers attempting to enter or exit Compass Point as well as make U Turns through the intersection (no signs, no painted lines, no arrows). 

If a light is not possible, which we believe it isn't, a simple solution would be to have people make a right out of the development travel West and then make a U turn to continue East towards Wilmington. 

We have been advised a "Super Street" is in the works but I believe they are showing it to be 1-2 years out, this is unacceptable for the families, workers, golfers and school busses entering and exiting the development. 

This is truly a life threatening intersection and we do not want to see another family lose a loved one because the NCDOT feels this upgrade should not occur until there are a certain number of houses in the development. Please note, there are 530 homes currently built with 60 under construction, as well as Golfers entering to play on the new Golf Course that is a large amount of people to put in jeopardy every day. 

Help us get the NCDOT and the Developer to fix the intersection and protect the people they claim to care so much about! As the family of Lindsay Benton, a vibrant 17 year old who lost her life at this intersection, we could never forgive ourselves if someone else is killed at this location because we didn't do anything to try and fix it. PLEASE HELP US!
