On Jan 11, 2020, The North Bay Serenity Hospice opened its doors. To the shock of many in the community who supported this hospice, it is now clear that they do not have plans to offer Medical Assitance in Dying (MAiD) provisions as an option for end of life care. MAiD is a very special, rarely used option for people who are suffering beyond the scope of the other palliative care tools. This petition acts to advocate for people who want access to a dignified and peaceful death in a hospice setting without a location transfer. Given that North Bay is the most active pro-MAiD community in the province of Ontario and the people overwhelmingly support MAiD as an option, we respectfully request that you join this petition to immediately reverse the North Bay Serenity Hospice policy.
