Reverse all penalties against Erin Cox, a true leader among her peers, one with integrity and honor, who did the right thing by coming to the aid of a friend in need.
The Issue
Please, sign this petition and support high school senior, Erin Cox. Our country is continually moving in the WRONG direction, and it is absolutely heartbreaking to see someone do the RIGHT thing, and receive harsh punishments for it.
If you research any articles about the issue (just google Erin Cox) you'll see that she answered a text message from a friend, who was drinking at a party, who didn't want to drive drunk, and who didn't want to get into another drunk drivers car. So Erin drove to the party to pick up her friend and drive her home, therefore demonstrating responsibility.
The police arrived at about the same time Erin did and began arresting underage drinkers.
The police determined that Erin was not drinking or involved in the house party, and took no issue with her. But her high school heard about it, stated that they have a "zero tolerance" policy on alcohol related incidents, and then stripped her of her CPT title on the volley ball team. They also suspended her from 5 games during her Sr. year. All this was done in an attempt to punish her for trying to be a designated driver to someone who asked for help when help was clearly needed.
The extremely harsh and completely misguided decision to penalize her for attempting to assist in a situation where she was doing what our society PROMOTES (be a designated driver and save a life) is unconscionable. The school has the power to make it right. We as a society must band together and stand up for justice. This school must admit it took incorrect actions against this model student, and reverse all sanctions immediately.
