Amend Home Rule Charter to bring back the Mayoral Seat in Norristown PA.
The Issue
Norristown needs the support of it's people. We need to change Home Rule Charter in order to put the Mayoral seat on the ballot. We have a council who are not reflecting the change which is needed. We were once on the books as a municipal, which garners more state funds. We are now a Borough which receives less state funds. Please help to make Norristown great again by signing this petition.
The changes we want to see has to start with the changing or the amend of the Home Rule Charter. Once we have enough signatures we can present it to the council.
I would like to start a grass root movement to get this started and on the ballot by the November elections. This is so important to us, the residents of Norristown. Please work with me on this matter. Together we can move Norristown into the future.
Norristown, has lost most of its residents. It has become a haven for criminals, and illegal immigrants. Slumlords are not held responsible for their properties, and they rent to anyone that pays cash without credit checks, or proof of legal residence.
Businesses have gone away, and the remaining residents are force to pay higher property taxes and receive mediocre services. Our Police and Fire department is paid lower than the surrounding townships and they work harder.
People have come into Norristown, purchase these beautiful Victorian houses and turned them into eyesore apartments. It needs to stop, because Norristown has become a town of renters. Renters have no loyalty or commitment to our town, because they have no investment in it.
But I see a different Norristown, I see a Norristown of the future. I see a tax break for business to move industrial business into Norristown. The old vacant factories, which are close to railroads, water, and highways are to be rehab and used again. Then, and only then jobs will return to Norristown. I see a monetary grant for any family who purchase a first time home to live here in Norristown. I also believe, anyone who wishes to buy a home that has been turned into an apartment, should be given a grant to assist them in returning that apartment back into a home.
The old vacant prison that sits on Airy street should be transformed to a Theater like the Keswick theater or a park with a picnic area. I also think slumlords should have to pay higher taxes for their dilapidated state of their properties. No one should own a business without having legal status in this country.
Having a Mayor in Norristown will give the residents a chance to be part of the solution by allowing them a chance to vote for their next mayor and hold that mayor accountable. Norristown was once a town of wealth, the homes, buildings, and the layout of the town demonstrates that.
Lets get our newly elected mayor to petition to bring business back to Norristown, and by having more families live, and work in their town will build pride, and bring revenue back to our broken school district.
We should never let anyone legal or illegal run you out of your town. Norristown is a wonderful place, we have everything at our fingertips. We have beautiful architect buildings, and homes like no other area. We have railroads that will take you in Philadelphia for work, shopping, and entertainment. We have easy access to all major highways, and very close to the King of Prussia Mall. We have a beautiful view of the river, and an opportunity to build condominiums on the river, and a bike path that can take you into Philadelphia with a wonderful scenic view. I want this petition to be "Norristown Welcomes you Back" petitions. Starting with getting a mayor elected. Please join in and sign this petition, and tell our borough we want a Mayor back in Norristown.
