‘Unprecedented’ is word used a lot in recent times. ‘Callous’, shameful’, and ‘uncaring’ are rapidly gaining ground on it when it comes to how Conservative controlled Norfolk County Council are refusing to even discuss reinstating the school holiday voucher scheme to help struggling families.

Yes, they’ve done it again, inventing a pretext to stop the proposal to reinstate being discussed at full council on Monday. So we can add another word to unprecedented, shameful, callous and uncaring - ‘cowardly’. Too cowardly to face having to vote against feeding hungry children or face the overwhelming arguments for reinstating the voucher scheme.

But there is money for a ‘cocktail dress and lounge suit’ dress code reception for the county great and good. Note the justification came from a Conservative group spokesman - they don’t even have the courage to put a name to the person defending the indefensible. After his car crash TV interview earlier this week council leader Andrew Proctor was surprisingly unavailable for Radio Norfolk interviews on Thursday morning. Another cowardly display.

Every day in every way evidence is building for the urgent and desperate need to support struggling families. The voucher scheme is quick, effective, proven and a lifeline. We’re not giving up as hungry children need feeding every day - this can’t be kicked down the road until a more convenient moment.

Please keep sharing and signing. It’s really hard to concentrate and focus when you’re hungry. It’s as difficult for us to focus on anything else when we know children in Norfolk are going hungry. This will remain our priority and with your continued support the fight goes on.
