St Mary’s River/Napu’saqnuk
Recently protected Archibald Lake Wilderness Area is an important tributary of the St. Mary’s River. Nearly the entire 684 hectares (ha) consists of ecosystem elements that are poorly represented in Nova Scotia’s protected areas network, including the well drained hardwood drumlins. It also overlaps with a mainland moose concentration zone and is a very important drainage basin entering the St. Mary’s River at Archibald Pool.
Nova Scotia’s longest river system is building a name around resilience, biodiversity and ecologically significance. Protecting Nova Scotia’s freshwater systems is our priority, and we applaud the provincial government for taking this very important step bringing us closer to provincial targets set at 20% land and water protection by 2025.
