Nominate the Fox pub as an asset of community value

The Issue

The aims of the nomination are:
• To demonstrate that the residents of the parish and surrounding area do value having a pub here;
• To encourage it to be sold as a going concern;
• If the current owner or any future owner ever applied for planning permission to change the use of the building (e.g. to residential), to increase the likelihood that Huntingdonshire District Council would refuse permission;
• To keep all options open for anyone wanting to run it as a pub again in future.

The main advantages of listing are:
1. Where pubs are listed this enables communities to ‘stop the clock’ for up to six months, when they’re put up for sale, giving time to consider options for saving the pub.
2. The listed status of a pub can also be used by a local authority as a material consideration in a relevant planning application, such as if a pub is threatened with conversion to residential use.
Listing stops the sale of pubs behind the back of communities.

A building or other land is defined in law as an ‘’asset of community value’ if its main use is, or has recently been, to “further the social wellbeing or social interests of the local community” and it could do so in the future. There is no doubt that our pub meets that definition.

The sooner that the pub is listed as an asset of community value, the greater the chance that something can be done to keep all options open for it possibly trading as a pub again in future.

We believe that as our local representatives, our parish council is best placed to make the nomination. (Other pubs on the asset list have been nominated by their parish councils.)

Please sign this if you agree, and you are over 18 and live or work in the Folksworth & Washingley parish.
